Overview

Manas National Park is one of the largest among the seven national parks in Assam and like Kaziranga, has been a UNESCO conferred World Heritage Site since 1985. Manas National Park is situated at the foothills of the Himalayas in western Assam and is spread across seven districts. Discover varied species of exotic flora and fauna on elephant-back, jeep safari or from a raft on a tour of Manas. Visit neighbouring tribal villages for an insight into the lives of the indigenous Bodo people. In Guwahati, discover ancient temples of the Ahom dynasty dating back to the 18th century as well as the sacred Kamakhya temple. Soak in the beauty of the landscape on a cruise on the Brahmaputra River.

Itinerary
Day 1 (Guwahati- jeep safari at Manas National Park-tribal dance show) (-, L, D)
  • Arrive in Guwahati where you will be received by one of our representatives. From here it is a 4- hour drive to Manas National Park, 176 kilometers away. A premium SUV is provided for your service with complimentary hot towels and mineral water bottles to help you freshen up after your journey. A hot packed lunch is also serve on the way that you can enjoy as we drive through a scenic route of lush foliage and winding roads. Arrive at Manas and check into your jungle lodge.
  • The sanctuary is divided into three ranges- Bansbari (Central), Bhuiapara (Eastern), and Panbari (Western). You can take a jeep safari in the late afternoon inside the Bansbari range. The park is home to over 20 species of endangered animals including the one-horned rhinoceros, tiger, Indian elephant, clouded leopard, and pygmy hog to name a few. A wide variety of local and migratory birds also inhabit the park. In the evening, enjoy a traditional Bodo tribal dance depicting the various facets of rural life. Sit around the warmth of a campfire and finally retire for the night after dinner.
Day 2 (Elephant safari- river rafting- tribal village visit)
  • Our day starts today with an early morning Elephant Safari in th e Mathanguri range. You can also enjoy a guided nature walk in the range that takes you along the banks of the Manas River. Spot several varieties of birds that flock to the river during the day. From here, we follow a trail that takes us through dense foliage. Many species of rare animals like the Golden Langur and Capped Langur can be spotted here. You will be accompanied by forest guards on this walk to show you the best trails as well as keep you safe in the forest.
  • In the afternoon, go for a river rafting trip on the Manas. Several species of birds and animals are best seen from a distance. A raft on the river provides an excellent vantage point. Spot herds of elephants, deer, and wild buffalo who come for a drink of water to the river bank.  The rafting trip begins at Mathanguri and ends at the Bispani range, 35 kilometres away. Here, you are picked up by our staff who bring you back to the lodge.
  • After lunch, visit local villages inhabited by the Bodo tribes. You can see the rural lives of these indigenous people untouched by the innovations of modernity. The Bodo people are skilled weavers and a visit to their village gives you a chance to see them at their craft. Return to the lodge for dinner and retire for the night.
Day 3 (Guwahati- Brahmaputra river cruise)
  • After breakfast, we depart to Guwahati. En route, we will pass by the border of Bhutan. Enjoy the beautiful scenic views of the surroundings on the way. Reach Guwahati for a l ate lunch at the hotel and take the rest of the afternoon to relax. In the evening, enjoy dinner on a special river cruise on the Brahmaputra. This is one of the highlights of this trip and gives you amazing views of Guwahati. Enjoy a colourful cultural show on deck over cocktails followed by a gala dinner of traditional Assamese delicacies. This is a relaxed evening where you can sit back and relax and enjoy a gentle ride on the river.
Day 4 (Guwahati city sightseeing)
  • Today will be spent visiting and exploring the ancient satras and temples of Guwahati. Our first stop will be the sacred Dol Govinda temple of Lord Krishna. This holy site was established over two centuries ago and is a revered shrine for Hindus. This is followed by a visit to the Auniati Satra, a holy neo-Vaishnavite monastery of Assam.
  • After a quick lunch on the way, we will visit the famous Aswaklanta Temple of King Shiva Singha. The temple was built in 1720 A.D. during the reign of the legendary Ahom dynasty monarch and is a testament to the sophistication and skill of Assamese architecture. Our day ends with a visit to the Dirgheswari Temple where you can see figures and images carved out of rocks that date back to 11th century A.D.
  • Return to the hotel where you can retire for the night after dinner.
Day 5 (Kamakhya temple- departure from Guwahati airport)
  • On the final day of the trip we pay an early morning visit to the holy Kamakhya temple in Guwahati. This is one of the most sacred shrines for Hindus and draws hundreds of devotees every day. Kamakhya has a fascinating history about its origin. According to legend, the Lord Shiva distraught at his wife Sati’s death carried her corpse around the world, lamenting and doing his dance of fury when Sati’s vulva fell to the ground and gave rise to the temple.
  • After the Kamakhya visit, we depart for the airport where our tour comes to an end.
